I’ve finished this eroge a while back, but I never thought it had much coverage (other than the figurines) so I thought I might as well make a review about it.
Peace@Pieces is a title made from unisonshift in 2004. It is about a novice high school teacher named Hisato Murakami getting shot by his own transfer student, Hikaru and that is how their tale of blossoming love begins.
Well, that’s not exactly how the story goes, but by this accident he learns that HIkaru is a candidate applying to be a death god and he just happened to be mistakened as an objective in one of her trials. Amazingly enough, he does not die but the incident awakens a special ability which allows him to distinguish who is also a death god candidate. And so, this marks the beginning of of the bizarre happenings in Hisato’s life.
Hikaru is your killer the genki dojikko and one of the two “true” main heroines in the game. She is a bit unconfident in her abilities as a death god candidate, but she is willing to do her best in any situation. I personally think she is cute in a “huggable stuffed animal” sort of way, even when she runs around while touting two large pistols over her head. She eventually lives in your single apartment out of guilt from what has happened during their first meeting. Despite her “one-shot kill”, she is very unskilled at aiming her weapons. -_-;
Nagi is the second of the pair and a cooldere, quite the opposite of the former. She is very good at building robots with the oddest functions (no it’s not what you think you perverts), but whether they’re useful…well you can be the judge of that. She is the one who finds out that Hisato has the ability to rejuvenate a death god’s power through experimentation. And don’t ask me how because I think you already know. Personally, Nagi is my favorite out of all the female characters. She spouts the most hilarious lines and her blushing makes me go all bubbly inside.
Homare is the obligatory osananajimi who calls you “onii-chan”. So for all of you who have a fetish for childhood friends and sisters, this is like a gold mine! She is the only one who is not a death god candidate, just a regular, ordinary human. She iis also wickedly trained with the use of a katana, complete with a miko outfit to boot. 0_o Her family also has quite a bit of cash since she they own a hot springs. Despite her awesome intelligence and athletic capabilities, Homare has a rather modest, caring personality. Perhaps the most deredere to Hisato out of all the female cast.
Anzu is the residential church priestess and quite possibly the most petite character out of all the characters, and I don’t mean by just size, but also by voice. She speaks so softly that I had to turn up the volume while lowering down the music just to hear her. But when you do it is probably the most cutest voice you have ever heard. She is very shy and polite. When Hisato first meets her, he felt she could be a death god candidate, but the feeling he received was a bit different from the others. You will find out if you go on her route, that is if you don’t die from moe overload first.
Last but not least, is Maririn, a crazy, violent girl for all those masochistic pedophiles. She does not attend the school Hisato works at, but because she is close friends with Nagi, she becomes one of the two members of the unofficial Mechanical Club. I did not go on her route yet because she is my least favorite out of all the winnable girls, but I plan to someday. >_> But from what I can tell is that she is fiercely possessive of Nagi and is not afraid to give Hisato a beating when she thinks he is too close. Of course if you’re pursuing her, she will give you further affectionate smackdowns as you progress. Maririn also owns two cats.
There are also other notable characters such as the student council. Well there’s really not a lot to say about them since I can’t even remember their names, and they’re really there for comic relief. It is hilarious to run into them and a good portion of the crazy antics will usually involve them one way or another.
You also better fear the death goddess herself, or her more affectionate nickname, Death-sensei. She is the one supervising Hikaru and Nagi’s trials. Despite her intimidating and fearsome appearance, she does have a spot of kindness every now and then in a cool sort of way. The yellow bird on her shoulder is her assistant Piyo.
Peace@Pieces really pulls out all the stops in the graphical department. Not only are the character designs created by Noizo Ito, but there are numerous expressions for each character covering a wide variety of emotions, even the minor characters. There are also a huge number of CG’s, ero and not. What made it a really nice touch was the amount of SD images used during humorous events, and trust me there are a lot of those.
The voice acting is excellent. All of the seiyuus fit the role of each character beautifully and they sounded like they really had fun speaking out their lines. The interface is easy to use and clean with big buttons and matching color scheme. In terms of music, there are a nice number of tracks with even a couple including choir vocals.
What hooked me into the game were the characters and their wacky interactions with their off-the-wall humor. But what absorbed me in was the character development and budding romance as they spend more time with each other. There is a dramatic twist later in the story that will put their relationship to the test involving a revelation of Hisato’s true purpose. And being the drama freak that I am, I lapped it all up like a starving dog.
So what did I think of it? Of course I liked it, immensely. If you enjoy a laugh-out-loud story with a spot of romance, drama, and action than I recommend Peace@Pieces.
